چکیده

Alkyl chain dynamics in monolayer protected metal cluster systems has been studied by the quasielastic neutron scattering technique, using two different instruments having very different energy windows. Long chain thiolate protected clusters such as Au–ODT (Au–SC18H37) are rotationally frozen at room temperature ~RT! in a wide time scale of 10 to 10 s. The rotator phase is absent at RT even in much smaller chain length systems, Au–OT (Au–SC8H17) and Au–HT (Au–SC6H13). Dynamics was found to evolve upon increase in temperature. Alkyl chains in a metal cluster superlattice such as Ag–ODT (Ag–SC18H37) are also dynamically frozen at RT in the whole time scale range. Evolution of dynamics with temperature is found to be different in the superlattice and isolated cluster systems. In the former, the chains participating in the inter-cluster interaction were found to be dynamically different from those without. On heating just above the chain melting temperature (Tcm), chains not involved in the inter-cluster interaction become dynamic first. Other chains start softening subsequently and, on increasing temperature near to the superlattice melting, all the chains eventually become dynamic. The uniaxial diffusion motion about the chain axis consistently described the dynamics of the monolayers, both in isolated cluster and in superlattice systems. Direct information on the dynamics of cluster monolayers is obtained for the first time. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1544093#

Evolution of dynamical motions in monolayer protected metal-clusters

Here we report orientational dynamics in monolayer protected metal-cluster (MPC) systems as studied by quasielastic neutron scattering (QENS) technique. Experiments carried out using two different instruments having very different energy windows, thus covering a time scale of 10 –10 12 s. Clear evidence of absence of rotator phase has been found in isolated MPCs (Au-SC18H37, Au-SC12H25, Au-SC8H...

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters

We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...

Pareto Optimal Multi-Objective Dynamical Balancing of a Slider-Crank Mechanism Using Differential Evolution Algorithm

The present paper aims to improve the dynamical balancing of a slider-crank mechanism. This mechanism has been widely used in internal combustion engines, especially vehicle engines; hence, its dynamical balancing is important significantly. To have a full balance mechanism, the shaking forces and shaking moment of foundations should be eliminated completely. However, this elimination is usuall...

On the Relation Between the Large-Scale Tropospheric Circulation and Air Quality in Tehran

The large-scale tropospheric circulation can play a controlling role in the accumulation and ventilation of air pollutants. It thus impacts air quality in large urban areas. This paper investigates the statistical relations between the dynamical indices related to circulation in the troposphere and visibility as a surrogate for air pollution in the urban area of Tehran for the climatological pe...

Dynamical evolution of nonclassical properties in cavity quantum electrodynamics with a single trapped ion

In this paper, by considering a system consisting of a single two-level trapped ion interacting with a single-mode quantized radiation field inside a lossless cavity, the temporal evolution of the ionic and the cavity-field quantum statistical properties including photon-counting statistics, quantum fluctuations of the field quadratures and quantum fluctuations of the ionic dipole variables are...
